Volvo Amazon was launched as a successor to the successful Volvo PV and was significantly more modern in comparison with the PV. The Amazon came in October 1961 in a two-door version and in a five-door version (station wagon) in February 1962. There was also a rapid demand for a sportier version of the Volvo Amazon. To meet these requirements, Volvo launched a GT version of the 120 series. The new car was named Volvo 123GT and was equipped with the Volvo B18B engine with an output of 115hp. In addition to this, the car received an extensive range of special equipment.
Today there are many imitations of Volvo's 123GT. This as all the accessories that were unique to the 123GT were available later and are also reproduced for several years to come. It is not very difficult to verify that an Amazon is a real 123GT. This by reading the VIN plate (with chassis number). A genuine 123GT must have chassis number 133351 (for LHD) or 133351 (for RHD). For the cars that were assembled as a kit (like the Canadian factory), the model number is 133951. If it's a different number, it's not a genuine 123GT.
We can now present yet another example of a beautiful 123GT painted in Cherry red (# 46) and upholstered seats in black (# 417-515).
The car has been carefully restored and much of the spare parts is new and changed.
