At the British Motor Show in 1990, Aston Martin revealed the cabriolet version of the "Virage" for the first time. It came to be called Aston Martin Virage Volante.
Victor Gaunlett, who at the time was Aston Martins chairman of the board described the car as: "One of, if not the most important new model in Aston Martin's 70-year history".
The model was equipped with a 5.4 Liter fuel-injected V8 engine in alloy and cylinder heads with four valves per cylinder. The engines were developed in collaboration with Callaway Engineering of Connecticut and had a top speed of 250km/h.
The body is built in aluminum and hand-knocked in true Aston Martin spirit.
Prior to the launch of the Virage Volante, Aston Martin produced 3 prototype cars. These three cars were marked with unique chassis numbers that all began with "DP", which stood for "Development Project".
DP2054/1, DP2054/2 and DP2054/3.
Unique to these three prototype cars was that they lacked a rear seat. Instead, these cars were equipped with a luggage shelf in the back. The first project car (DP2054/1)was used by Aston Martin for crash tests and do naturally no longer exist. The second project car (DP2054/2) was painted green and is still based in the UK. However, this car has been rebuilt and is today equipped with passenger seats in the back.
The third project car (DP2054/3) came to be used as the face of Aston Martin for press and promotional images as well as exhibitions. This car was then imported to Sweden and put into service for the first time.
We now have the pleasure of presenting this particular Aston Martin Virage Volante Prototype DP2054/3. The car is in fantastic condition and has only driven about 13.000 km. This example is thus the only remaining prototype example in original design! The car comes with a lot of documentation in the form of books, papers, receipts and photos. Don't miss the chance to become the owner of a "youngtimer" of rank in a completely unique design. Contact us for more information.
