The Volvo 240 was presented for the first time in 1974. This model series later became Volvo's most produced, with over 2.86 million cars manufactured. 

Since 1966, Volvo had reaped great sales success with the 140 Series. This model series was manufactured up until 1974, and by then a little over 1.2 million Volvo 140:s had been sold. The model range included the Volvo 140, Volvo 142, Volvo 144 and Volvo 145. In 1970, a special variant with a higher roof was also launched, which came to be called the Volvo 145 Express.
The successor to the 140 Series was presented at Dala Airport, in the north of Sweden on the 21 of August 1974. Press people from all over the world were flown in on chartered Aircrafts. On arrival, they got to view the orange painted 244 GL with matching interior, in orange. The model series was presented in six different models and the Volvo 260 in two different models. The wagons got a new front section inspired by the VESC experimental car. With the launch of the 240/260 Series, Volvo took a strong position in terms of road safety. 
Volvo's 240 series quickly became an everyday favorite and was used extensively and for a long time. This is thanks to its quality and durability.
We can now present a unique example of a 1982 Volvo 244 GL. This specific car has only driven 19.000 km since it was put into service. All receipts, documents and books remain in exceptional condition. This is how close to new it could get! But it is still over 40 years old.
On December the 18th 1981, the car was sold new by Kristianstads Automobil AB to the foreman Mr Österberg living in Broby, Skåne in the south of Sweden. He then used the car sparingly (to say the least) until he sold the car to its last user in 1999. Then the car was inspected with a mileage of 18.000 km.
